Can i let my domain name expire and renew it with another company.?

My domain name was due for renewal on 19th August this year, and I have been having some problems with the hosting company to change my account, so I am going to put my web site with another company, however I would still like my original domain name, but I would need to move that as well. I have been advised that the best way would be to let the name lapse and then in a month or so re register it, I have also been advised that as the renewal date has passed it is not possible to transfer the domain name. What is the next move?

It's better to transfer it, just go to http://www.LocoDomains.com and select transfer

Yes, but you might want to backorder it to be safe.

The best thing you can do if you really want that domain is to renew it with the same company and then transfer it to another company. Usually when you let it expire you have a grace period to renew it with the same company. Then you can transfer it. http://www.doggydomains.com has cheap domains and good hosting if you want to transfer it to that company.

I would not advise letting it expire and then re-register it in a month´s time. The domain industry is thriving and sometimes cut-throat. You could lose your domain if you allow it to expire as someone else could easily register it. There are lists of domains expiring so there are loads of people out there who know your domain is due to be available soon. Do you really want to take that risk? My advice is to renew it with your current provider and then transfer it to another domain registrar once you have renewed it.. I use domemain.com and I have had no problems with them.
