If you have a domain and someone backorders it, does it mean that person has ownership once the domain expires

If you have a domain and someone backorders it, does it mean that person has ownership once my ownership of the domain expires? Or do I still get the right to decide whether or not to keep the domain and pay for more time owning it?

Maybe. When a domain expires, the backorder services will fight to secure the domain.

I have bought plenty of backorders that were unsuccessful on their first attempt, so I had to wait another year or pick another name to get.

While you own your name, no one can take it from you. Backorders and snaps are a service that try to be the very first to grab the name the instant it becomes available.

If you pay your bill before the expiration date and renew the name there will be no opportunity for the backorder service to snatch your name for someone else. Only after the expiration date while the domain begins the process of release can they be taken.

Check the link in sources.

What they said.

IF some one back order your domain it doesnt mean he will own it..

The domain is surely with you, If you dont renew your domain in time and then its gone.

So make sure you renew your domain even before it expires inorder to keep your domain for yourself..
