When a dot com expires, can you get that domain the next day?

It usually takes about 45 days after the domain has expired that someone new can register it.

The person who had it registered before gets about 5 days to renew it (although their pages stop working the day it expires).

After that, it goes into a registrar hold for 30 days. During this time, the registrar (like GoDaddy) makes the decision on whether or not the person who owned it can renew it. Usually they charge quite a bit of money for this.

After this it goes into a Pending Delete status for about 5 days. Once this is over, people can try and buy it.

It's best to use a backorder service if you really want a domain. pool.com and GoDaddy.com both have them, the rules are a little different.

It depends, but I think you have to "bid" on it & if nobody else is interested in the domain then you can have it after a few days. Contact the host of the website.

Not always.. many companies hold it for a little while to see if the user wants to renew it. I think godaddy lets you set it up so that it purchases it for you as soon as it is available.

No. The amount of time before it will be available for registration depends on the domain's registrar.

Some registrars pre-release domains that expire, where they sell them to the highest bidder through an open auction. The amount of time between the expiration date, and the auction varies.

Some registrars follow the standard domain deletion cycle. If they do, the domain will become available for registration within 65-80 days of the expiry.

See below for a couple good articles about this:

Setting to prevent administrators from overiding the domain policy for user accounts? (e.g., Password Expiry)

Is there a setting to prevent administrators from overiding the domain policy for user accounts? (e.g., Password Expiration)

For example, if the domain policy sets passwords to expire in 90 days, it's still possible to set user passwords to not expire. Is there a way to enforce the domain policy and not allow individual user settings?

If you're the domain administrator, yes, both of these are very possible to do. I don't feel this is the case, but here's how one would do it:

Open Active Directory Users and Computers and locate the user you want to set to not expire their password. Double-click their account name, select the account tab and set "Password never expires" or something similar to that. (I don't have it opened here).

If you want a user to not receive GPO's, you can set a different Organizational Unit (OU) to hold those users with different policies. You cannot set different password policies such as length, password aging, and reversible encryption, etc to these GPO's, as those are domain wide. However, you can also set a specific GPO to apply computer only settings and/or user only settings. AD doesn't allow you to add GPO's to the default containers of Users and Computers, so if you want the domain policy itself to apply to the users/computers and nothing else, leave those accounts there and create another OU/GPO for others.

Finally, from Microsoft: "If you run any version of Windows® domain today (Windows NT®, Windows 2000 Active Directory®, or Windows Server® 2003 Active Directory), you are limited to a single password policy per domain." See link, which has much more information about this and how to effectively use password policies.

WG

I am prety sure there is a GPO for this as well, but not sure which one...

yes you can apply the GPO on the entire domain, site or OU that you want the password not to expire.

well I am not sure if you have such an option in GPO.. but Its worth a try under Securtiy settings>> account settings.

best of luck with that.. if not able to find.. i m sure you know the manual way to change it for the all user a/c

Why does Yahoo keep billing me for my domain every year when it doesn't expire for two years?

Every year they send a "you-don't-need-to-do-anything-about-upd... notice, followed by a billing notice, even though the update lasts for two years.

Its just standard practice.

Call them and get it straightened out.

Good Luck.

Aren't companies supposed to save emails sent to consumers?

My domain expired after 3 years and the registrar claims they contact the registrant 60 days, 30 days, and the day of expiration yet I didn't receive ONE email.

They want me to renew my domain for a whopping $99 and I said if they can prove they sent me email reminders, I'd pay.

Today they called me and said that they no longer keep email notifications.

Isn't there some law stating that companies have to maintain emails for a certain length of time for legal purposes??

There is no law that requires a business to even OWN a computer, much less conduct business through email and keep the email copies.

If you want to renew your agreement with them, you pay the $99. Sending you a notice by email is simply a courtesy, not something they have to do. They can prove (or not prove) that they sent you an email.. which is totally useless, since you cannot prove/ not prove that you did not get them. You might have trashed your computer, not checked your mail for 6 months.

A reminder email is not a legal document, no legal reason (or even logical reason) that they would need to keep them.

Get a grip.

Nope - sure isn't. But, if they don't keep them, they can't prove they contacted you now can they?

How much is this .com domain worth?

I was going through a list of domains that were expiring this month that I owned and saw WontTell.com. I'm interested in selling it, and used a few domain appraisal tools to price it and was surprised how high they said it was valued. Anyone here have any idea how to price these things? I'm wondering what humans might think it's worth.

>> I'm wondering what humans might think it's worth.

Nothing...you don't even know who it's valuable to!

If you haven't had an offer for it, then nobody even wants it. If they did, they'd contact you.

The appraisal guys want you to list with them. Even if there's no up-front cost, they'll still get a big chunk of the selling price - if it does sell.

WORD: It's worth what someone will pay for it.

They'll show you a high appraisal, then get you all excited so you'll pay them to list it for you.

Domain Name Renewal with another Registrar?

Hi there,

I have a domain name that's close to its renewal date. The current registrar is costly compare to others. Is it advisable to transfer it to another registrar and then renew with the new registrar when its expiring?

Transfer them to http://www.LocoDomains.com they have the best deals and service

Just check what your current registrar charges for transferring, It ending up costing me more once. The other risky alternative is let it expire and buy through a different company as soon as its availble. godaddy.com is very good.

Yes you can transfer to another register. Before you do though check what fee's are involved it may cost you less to stay where you are. There's usually a transfer fee and the renewal fee will have to be paid.

You can transfer it now, And wont have to worry about the expiration with the other registar. E-mail your current registrar asking for your UDAI or get it through their web portal. Then transfer to new host. Be aware that DNS wont update for up to 24 hours, And if you have a mail server for domain, You will see an interruption in mail flow.

Advise you change on a saturday afternoon or a time that suits to have an interuption

Cheers

Domain After Market?

How do companies get the "expiring soon", "deleted", etc domain lists and start their domain site where visitors can purchase such domains? Companies such as afternic.com and deleteddomains.com do this. How can I get such lists to start my own company?

you have to amke a corporate relationship to other websites where domains are parked for revenue or sell/bidding.

You can make your own list and contact the owners to add their domains in the list of sell.

Further you can park your own domains at revenue direct, without any cost. They will sell your domains as well as monetize the domains to earn some revenue.

revenuedirect.com for adding domains and http://www.domainsearch.com/cgi-bin/Domain_Search to search sold domains.

I've found a domain I want to buy. its just about to expire. how do I grab it quickly and securely?

Go to GoDaddy and use the Backorder feature. It has 50-50 chance that you will get it. That feature costs a little but wil try to register the domain for you automatically when it becomes available. The domain name maybe expire like in 1 may but it is still locked status for some time so the last owner can renew it if he forgot to do it. But BACKORDERING is the answer. Use that feature in GoDaddy and it will help you.

I always use Network Solutions to buy my domains, I would check there, or even do a WhoIs search to see where it was purchased through before. The whole purchase process takes about 5 minutes, granted it is actually available.

buy from godaddy.com

if they ask where u heard about them say www.glewed.com

Can i get free domain name(not expire)?

u'll get free domain name from the following site but no webspace. u'll have to link it with that site which provides free webspace like yahoo geocities. herez the name of the free domain name provider http://www.freedomain.co.nr/

dear member,

all domains are not free in one way or another and do expire in yearly increments.

kind regards,

ben

plz let me know (email me) if there exists any.

Actually, it is possible. I use this site called www.tk.com which gives you a free "yourname.tk" address. Totally free!

A few catches though.

You will have advertising and a banner at the top of your site.

About the expiring thing.

Ok. It doesn't expire if atleast 25 or 50 ppl visit it a month. But I tried less-than-25-or-50-ppl thing and it never expired. Just be prepared.

And this site doesn't have web hosting. It only gives a free domain name. I use a FREE web hosting service called www.freewebs.com, and link that to my domain.

if you want to see how my site looks like, and how it would look like if you used those two free services, go to www.varietyatyourservice.tk. (All these sites I have mentioned will be listed in sources.)

Good Luck!

Registering a domain name?

I have a domain I want to register, however it is "parked".. not being used

I went to whois to find more info about the owner of my domain, and it says

Record last updated on 30-Dec-2007.

Record expires on 10-Mar-2009.

Record created on 10-Mar-2007.

It is almost the end of Feb now -- does this potentially mean that after march 10 I can register the domain? Should I wait and risk it? Or should I try contacting the hosting service to have them inquire about me buying the domain?

If it "expires".. would it potentially automatically renew? Wold someone continue paying for this domain even though it is ONLY PARKED .. it is not being used at all.

There's a chance it might become available but if you show interest it might NOT become available!

The owner will smell the greens!

Before a domain expires the owner gets notified and if the owner pays the $9.00 it won't expire.

I have a few domains that are just parked and I might not renew so with any luck this will be the same.

But after it expires you need to wait a bit longer, you will NOT be able to register it after march 10 that's for sure.

Domain Names?

I checked with whois.com and saw that my domain name is already expired I don't want to renew with my current registrar because they are overpriced, how come I can't register/renew my domain name with other registrars if it is already expired?

Also is it possible to register my domain name with 1 company and have it hosted by another company?? because I want to go with the company that offers the cheapest domain name registration fees and those that offer the cheapest hosting fees

Is it possible to come up with my own domain name registration and web hosting site (not a reseller)

If I have intermediate knowledge in computer (I am not a computer programmer) - can I be a web host reseller? I understand the business concept but if technical problems arises I wouldn't know how to solve it.

If your domain name is in the expiration process you can not transfer registrars. This is an ICANN rule not the registrars. If you want the name renew it as quickly as possible before it completes the expiration process and becomes available for anyone to register.

After you have renewed the name you can transfer it to any registrar you want.

Yes it is possible and very common to register your domain name with one company and have it hosted by another.

To establish your own domain name registration and web hosting site (not a reseller) is possible however it would be very expensive.

To become a reseller is easy and requires no technical knowledge, the company you are selling for will provide all the customer service and tech support. You are basically promoting their products and services and receiving a commission on sales.

You can transfer your existing domain if its not released. If it is released by the current registerar then you may register a new domain from goDaddy.

You don't need much knowledge if you want to become a reseller. Try hostgator reseller hosting. They will create your reseller site easily.

Getting My domain name from yahoo?

I got a domain name and hosting from yahoo. I cancelled the hosting. I heard from several ppl it's next to impossible to get your domain name transferred from yahoo. I don't have the time to waste a lot of time trying to get what I paid for out of yahoo's clutches. The domain is set to expire next month anyway. How can I get it to where I have all my other domains? I don't want someone else to get it. Can I renew it on the same day it expires? What's the easiest way I can get it back?

Most good domain registrars have a transfer wizard that will walk you through this. I use Temecula Valley Domains http://www.TemeculaValleyDomains.net

If you wait til the last minute you run the risk of someone snatching up the domain. Sometimes there are advertisement agencies that will take your domain if you wait too long, and especially if you had a good deal of traffic. I wouldn't imagine it's in immediate danger if you choose to lease the domain again from another source. However, you probably will have just as much luck transferring it through yahoo. You really won't know until you try. I would transfer it normally through Yahoo, I don't see why it would be a problem.

Also, if you need hosting I provide it for pretty cheap http://subonedesign.com/

Can I move hosting and maintain my domain name ?

Okay, I'm really not a techi or anything of the sort.

So I'm going to sound rather stupid ...

erm, last nov I really didn't know better and bought a hosting plan from yahoo which included a .com address... now the bills are really expensive and I was thinking of moving my host to godaddy.com but my domain name hasn't expired until the end november of this year .... So I thought, to save money, I could just pay the $9.99/year to have yahoo keep the domain name and host thru godaddy (who's month hosting is $3.99 compared to yahoo's $6.99).... is this possible ? or will the link get screwed up or something ? How should I go about doing this ?

Should I just wait it out till november ? and start from scratch? I mean my domain name won't expire till november and I really need "that" particular name ....

What you are requesting is known as a transfer. Call GoDaddy and one of their specialists can give you the step by step instructions to do this. You can also search GoDaddy's FAQ's and find the info you need.

Do yourself a favor and do not cancel your Yahoo hosting account until AFTER your website is moved and being hosted by GoDaddy.

Have Fun!!!

Sure you can! Just go to your domain control panel and change the web site url.

yes u can have domain name from 1 service provider and host from another.

If you are not comfortable doing this by urself...aaskany of ur geek friend to do it....

or visit how stuff works..

Yes, Sure, You can do it.

You can find solution at http://www.urlstate.com

you need to just change the nameserver

currently if your nameserver looks like ns1.webhosting1.com

you just have to update it by ns1.webhosting2.com

You can leave the domain at yahoo by going and changing the DNS in your domain control panel to point to the new host domain servers. Or it may be simpler to just transfer the domain to the new host. If you want to host at http://www.dakotawebhosting.com they are running a special that you can transfer a domain for $1.99 when you get hosting and I think the hosting is only $4 a month.

Yes you can. Go to the webpage for godaddy or 1and1 or dreamhost (all good and not very expensive) and poke around. They all allow you to transfer a domain (heck, they want your business!). The only problem may be that yahoo might have "locked" your domain, supposedly so a bad guy couldn't hijack it. If they did, you have to follow their directions to unlock it.

How can i save domain name about to expire without web site?

canceled web site want to save domain name for future use

You don't need a website to keep the domain name.

Your domain name is registered with a domain name registration company. You pay the registration company the renewal fee.

If you don't know who your registration company is, go to http://www.whois.net and search your domain name. It will give you the name of the registrar.

My yahoo domain is about to expire, how do I extend it? I can't find any information anywhere, Help!!!!?

it will be extended automatically if you don't cancel it.

How Do domain transfers work?

Hi

I want to transfer my site from godaddy to namecheap. My account expires on godaddy in March. I am wondering if I do a transfer now will I lose the difference? Like if I do a transfer today will my new expiry date be feb 15,2010?

ya it's a pain in the bum, and kinda hard to explain, but they walk you through every step of the way with emails and what not .. nothing to fear

then there's phone support, if you really have reading issues

Hello,

when ever you transfer a domain you dont lose anything.

say expiry is march 18th 2009, and if you transfer today, expiry will be march 18th 2010.

But in case of HOSTING you will not get any credit.

Transfer takes 5 working days after transfer approved by Admin of domain.

During this you cant change any info in your domain (i.e admin details or nameservers )

There is NO Downtime for site during transfer.

Whois domain registration database?

I am attempting to restart a site I closed down a few years ago, but my domain appears to have be off limits temporarily,

"This domain is parked, pending renewal, or has expired.

Please contact the domain provider with questions."

It does not look like it is being used at all.

I looked up the domain in the Whois database and here is what I receive.

Can anyone tell me how to identify the information I am looking for?

Is there any way for me to reobtain this domain?

Which date is the expiration date for it?

Thanks

Record expired on 2009/3/3

This says that the domain name expired on 3/3/09. Unfortunately right now there's nothing you can do. All you can really do is sit and wait. Sometimes it could take a long time for domain names to be available for registration again. For example, I registered a domain name and let it expire in October or September, it's going to be available for registration sometime in early April.

Another thing you could /try/ is contacting ICANN and asking them when it would be available for registration again. If they'll tell you.

It looks like someone bought the domain on 3 March 2008, updated it on 6 March 2009 and owns the domain until at least 3 March 2010. Sorry mate, you're not going to be able to get this domain back...unless you are the one in the UK.

Domain name unavilable. still can be obtained?

i had booked a domain name which expired and now shows not avialable with locked statis. Can still register it for me? how?

nope, there can not be a domain name that is the same as another existing domain. It would cause a major conflic with DNS servers and probably make both domains unreachable..

When a domain name expires (especially if it's a .com that's being talked about here), it doesn't become available immediately as some tend to believe. It goes through a series of "phases" before it's released for re-registration, if at all.

Being able to possibly obtain the domain name depends on what phase it's currently in. If doing a WHOIS lookup on the domain name (like iwhois.com or whatever you're comfy with) shows its status line as "inactive" and past its expiration date, then it's definitely expired.

A popular practice among various domain registrars nowadays is to try to "auction" an expired domain name to an interested buyer (or to the winner of an auction if multiple parties made a reservation for it) before pulling the plug. So if the domain name in question has indeed expired, I suggest you contact its sponsoring registrar and ask what are their steps to making a "backorder" for it.

That way, you can cut down the waiting time. Waiting for an expired domain name to be available for registration can take anywhere from 36 to even 78 days, and you still have no assurance of possibly grabbing it.

you can find out who bought it and make them an offer to buy it from them.

it is probably available with your previous registrar, check the whois database at www.internic.net

Yahoo has a promo for a sm business domain for $1.99/the 1st year. Does anyone know how much it is after that?

I received an ad from them today about this promotion that expires at the end of this month. I do want to do it, but how much is it going to cost me next year, and the year after that, etc.? (assuming the rates stay the same) If you currently have a domain that you are paying an annual fee for, then you are the exact person I am looking for to answer this question. Thanks everyone.

According to the information found on http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/domains/ the going rate is $9.95 per year. This is the US rate, it may differ depending upon your location.

Yahoo has a promo for a sm business domain for $1.99/the 1st year. Does anyone know how much it is after that?

I had bought a year Domain 18 months ago from Yahoo! and now ....?

i had bought a year Domain 18 months ago from Yahoo!.

After a year was over, my domain was also expired and i could not use it anymore. Thats fine.

Now after about 6 months that i wanna pay again to get that domain back, Yahoo! says ' sorry, this domain has been taken ' and it does not let me to take it.

What can i do ?

I have been waiting 5-6 months but it is still blocked

:(

After you let it expire, somebody else bought it. If you do a whois search ( http://www.whois.net/ ) you may be able to contact the owner and make an offer to buy it.

Or, if you simply enter the URL of your old domain in your browser's address bar, somewhere on the page you'll may find a link or email address to a sales contact. (If it's not obvious, look at the bottom of the page.)

Where can I sell domain names?

After years of holding, linking, blogging, and building I am offering some or all of my portfolio of premium/braod domain name investments for sale.....pls email Soldinsalem@aol.com with all offers or inquiries Also they are listed on www.ViralT-Shirts.com website under domain portfolio.

Lost a domain name. Is it legal?

A client of mine did not keep an eye on his domain name. It expired and within a couple days, some entity snapped it up. He's a musician (not a big name, but trying) and needs it, and the domain was his name, so it's not like this company can use it. They grabbed it so they could be there when he needed it back. I've heard of this happening...is it legal? I'm afraid his options are limited.

It is legal, but definitely not ethical. There have been many articles written about it on blogs. He can reregister with a different extension. I have been thinking about getting the .us to replace the .com on my site.

Well... from experience, I've let a domain I no longer wanted expire and I'm still getting annoying messages from Network Solutions asking for verification that I truly don't want the domain. They send messages for at least 3 months prior to expiration. They also have a 35 day grace period after the expiration.

They also have autorenew so you can forget about your domain name being lost.

Your client might want to check them out for a new domain.

Well if it expired and they bought it I'm presuming legally he has no right to the domain name anymore, he'd either have to buy it off them (most probably for a high fee) or register a different domain name; and try to keep this one.

Its not illegal. For you need to really protect your domain you need to register it to your name through ordinary State Registrars. The you can go legally if someone steals it.

HuUhH???

What a bunch of bs. Call the server.

Has my subscription of 1year expired or what... am getting pissed off with your service. my small business domain is psion-inc.com and small business email is joseph.awe@psion-inc.com.

Domain renewal at existing/new registrar?

A couple of years I have registered a .COM domain (and hosting) with some litle known company registrar from northern Europe.

A few days ago have received a renewal notice with a link to the domain control panel. But the link is not working. Have try to contact the site (thru mail, messenger and phone) but no responce.

The domain will expire within 3 weeks. What should I do? Should I let the domain to expire and try to buy it then or to register it with a new domain registration company (GoDaddy or some other well known).

I dont want to loose this domain!!!

Please help about this matter. 10 points guaranteed for the best solution. Thanx!

go to another hosting company - explain the situation to them, explain you wish to transfer a domain that is about to expire and they will able to take up hosting as soon as it expires, dont let it just expire and try to then register it, this is too risky as i'm sure your aware you could lose the domain, if its valuable people will be waiting for it to expire.

Don’t trust any cheap service, many of them don’t allow you to have full control on your domain name. If you’re going to buy domain names, http://www.goldpuma.com is the lowest cost service which is full-featured and really works for you ($9.99 /year). They offer free extras with every domain name:

Does anyone know how to contact whois?

The domain company, whois, gives an email for customer support but I can not find a way to contact them by phone.

Right now, our domain is expired and I definitely need to talk to someone PRONTO to get it renewed immediately. This is mission critical, so any help with experience with them would be appreciated!

I tried running a whois on whois.com, but there was no phone number listed. Your best best is to use their webform and wait for contact. If it's money-related, I'm sure they will jump on it as soon as possible. Once they do, you can ask for a telephone contact.

Have you tried just renewing the domain name? If it hasn't been expired for very long you should just be able to renew it. I know they lock the domains after a certain time, but perhaps you still have time.

Domain Name Registration?

1. Is it safe to register my domain name with WebsitePalace.com? Have you have tried their services before? what can you say?

2. If the registration of a domain name expires - what happens to the domain name? What is domain name transfer? is it possible to transfer the domain name from current registrar to ANOTHER registrar even if it still within the subcription time?

I have an existing domain name with another registrar, but this current registrar don't want to release the domain name so I can't register it with another registrar what should I do?

If the domain name registration expires what will happen to the domain name? will I be able to use it? If expirty is the answer to getting my domain name back - how will I know that I can use the domain name again? where will I look to see that the domain name is available?

3. If I register my domain name with WebsitePalace.com will there be google ads appearing on my website?

4. What is private registration of domain name?

WebsitePalace.com appears to be a reseller for GoDaddy so you should be OK. If you are concerned deal directly with GoDaddy .

If a domain name expires it goes through the expiration process and in about 65 days it becomes available again.

Yes it's possible to transfer the domain name to another registrar.

Read your terms of service with your current registrar and make sure you own the name. If it was a free name the registrar might have rights to it. If not, and you own the name they must provide you the information to transfer the name. If they refuse you can report them ICANN.

As far as the Google ads it depends on how you develop your website. If you use a free hosting service there is probably going to be ads of some type. If you pay a couple bucks for hosting you won't have the ads.

Private registration keeps your registration information private in the whois listings.

Never heard of websitepalace.

You can always transfer the domain elsewhere, 60 days after registration. Often companies take your money and register the domain in their own name.

Check if you really own the domain name at

http://domains.nkuw.com/domain.php?action=whois

If you pay for it, there should be no Google Ads. Private registration is risky if you are not directly registering the domain name.

Windows Domain -- check when does my password expire?

At work, we use a domain login for the network that, supposedly, makes us change our password every 30 days.

How can I check and see the number of days remaining? I think it should be coming up soon but it's not giving me any warnings, notices, etc. like I expected this past week.

The PC I'm using runs Vista, but I can get on an XP machine if neccecary.

If your on a Windows Domain, only your administrator can tell you when your password expires, if it actually expires at all. Your Domain Administrator should be able to help you with anything involving the domain and passwords. But he has to uphold the policy for your company. So he might not be allowed to do somethings for; you will just have to found out from him/her. Hope that helps.

you cant, you would need to check the active directory that your in, since most it teams will not show you this unless you have a really good reason.. or they might. since you'll need to go to the server machine

Change it today, then you'll know

How do i renew payment for my domain hosting service?

my hosting service is about to expire and i dont know how i am to pay for it. how can i find out who is hosting a particular web space?

I presume you have bills from the hosting company? Well, send them a mail and explain that you don't know how to pay for a renewal.

You can try backtracking from the nameservers on file for your domain name.

First do a whois search on your domain (try www.whois.sc) and check what domain is set for your Nameserver. Then check and see who owns that domain name (another whois search or just put it in a browser window sometimes they may have some information posted there (not always as that isn't the purpose of a nameserver). Or do a search on the nameserver domain name and you may find forum questions or host FAQ pages that refer to it.

Does yahoo support domain name purchases?

I would like to purchase my domain name from Godaddy which expires in 5 days. I own it but I don't like godaddy due to bad services.

If you want to transfer away from godaddy your going to have to renew first

Yes it does.

Domain Transfer ...... "Your .com or .net domain must not be within 60 days of expiry"

My domain will expire on this month.

Can I transfer my domain at Godaddy to them(Netfirms).

according to your question...no

your domain name expires within 60 days so they are not going to transfer it

You're not allowed to transfer a domain in the first 60 days after you've created or previously moved it, or if you still owe money for this year's registration. Beyond that, ICANN rules prohibit registrars from interfering with a properly authorized transfer, even if the domain has expired.

However, you should do it now to prevent complications... your old registrar has five days to sit on the request (it doesn't normally take that long, though) and if your domain expires and goes into the 30 day redemption period there will be extra hoops to jump through. Any longer than that, and you risk losing the domain entirely.

Failed to renew my domain what can i do?

I used to have a domain name called nnstyle.com I register it with registerfly.com from 2002 , this year i decide to renew but due to trouble in their system tehy did not renew my site and the name expired , can i foce them to compensate me ? or can i force them to return me my domain ?

According to the registration information at http://whois.domaintools.com/nnstyle.com this domain appears to still be registered in your name. It's probably in the redemption period. Call your registrar and ask them how to redeem it. Don't wait, do it ASAP!

I'll try to make this a little "English as possible".

Companies called "registrars" are the only ones who can truly register and manage domain names. The 1st link below is the list containing those who are truly accredited and up to the task.

Those who aren't listed on that site yet supposedly register domain names for customers are called "resellers". Essentially, registrars form as many reseller partnerships as possible (especially with webhosting companies) to expand their business.

Those being said, Registefly used to be a reseller for a registrar named Enom about 2 years ago. Clients who secured their domain names with Registefly during those times were actually registered with Registerfly's reseller account with Enom.

Registerfly eventually secured their own registrar accreditation last year. They eventually input some changes that anytime someone renews a domain name with them that's really registered with Enom, it's supposed to "automatically" transfer it to Registerfly themselves.

Unfortunately this has caused numerous problems both for Registerfly and their clients. Apparently you're one of them.

The moment you let the domain name expire for any reason, you're deemed to have "abandoned" your rights to it. You won't be able to "force" the registrar to do anything for you, they can renew your domain name or not depending on how they go about it.

What makes this more complex is that since the domain name was likely under Registerfly's reseller account with Enom, in turn they're also held by their agreements with them. What Enom says, Registerfly has no choice but to follow.

From what you stated, the domain name's currently on redemption period. That's the last registered name holder's last chance of possibly getting it back before someone else does.

However, redeeming a domain name costs a lot. Average price is about $100+ at least up to about $200+, and the registrar can charge any fee they see fit.

If the domain name really means a lot to you, then you might as well bite the bullet and redeem it with them. As in you'd have to call Registerfly and make a redemption request.

If you don't want to pay for redemption, then you'll have to wait for the domain name to be deleted. But even that doesn't give you any assurance you'll be able to re-register it elsewhere since there are numerous parties waiting to grab any domain name they can.

To answer your question directly, no you can't force them to do anything for you. But you CAN ask them what options you have, and be sure to give specifics.

To answer your question directly, no you can't force them to do anything for you. But you CAN ask them what options you have, and be sure to give specifics.

When does my domain name expire? will i receive notice of it ahead of time?

Let it run out.. Obviously they are not doing a good job of keeping you informed

The i would say take the risk cuz lifes full of em so just wait and see what happens

whats ur domain?

A bit of assistance with domain name purchases?

so I cheked on whois and found the domain I wanted was to expire on may the 3rd.

does that mean may 3rd I can purchases the domain name?

i THINK it also says on there somewhere it is registered and parked.

what does this "parked" mean?

I want it. does it look like I can get it?

I recommend checking back early and often after the third, because some unscrupulous registrars feed expiring domains to squatters for kickbacks on the ransom. The squatters typically hold on to them for a month or so, and if nobody shows interest, then they let them drop back to the general pool of availability. That's why if you ever register a domain name, by all that's holy, be late on your taxes before being late on paying the registration fee or you'll never see your domain again.

You might check with some registrars who can camp the domain for a fee, and as soon as it's available, snag it up for you. I've never used such a service, but it might be a good idea for you.

If its parked i think it means it doesnt actually have a site of its own but is parked on someone elses site. If it is due to expire on 3rd may i think they usually give the owners a set number of days after it expires to re-purchase it. If they dont purchase it after that then its available for you to buy. (im not 100% positive but i think this is right) What domain is it your looking at?

Why is my domain disappeared in "Manage My Premium Services" section?

I own two domains and i can mange my domains by my yahoo email. But now, i just can mange only one domain, in Mange My Premium Services section, the second domain is disappear. The expired date is 30-Nov-2006. Please kindly check again, and give me your advice.

Thank you very much

Hi,

Yahoo mail is experiencing a glitch. I haven't found a fix for it yet. In the mean-time inform Yahoo! of the problem: http://add.yahoo.com/fast/help/us/mail/c...

For those who can't get in at all try this as it seems to be working for a few.

http://myyahoo.com

Login on My Yahoo! page

Select the link at top right to go to Yahoo!'s Home Page.

Mouse over the Mail Icon under where it says (Hi, your Yahoo! id).

You should get a drop down menu with your latest emails displayed.

Select an email and click it. You then get to a new page about Shortcuts, but just select the button for Mail and it should take you to your Mail page.

It wasn't getting redirected to the shortcuts page on some servers and not going to the mail page.

I hope this helps some until Yahoo! Mail gets a fix for us.

Um, you are asking the wrong person. I am not Yahoo. I am an idiot. You need to contact Yahoo directly, and this is not the place.

Domain name?? account about to expire with IPOWER ?? How can I keep the name but switch to yahoo?

while I'm at it? Can someone give a brief idiot's guide to domain names, carriers, web hosters - consolidating all of this to make it no brainer with a carrier (like yahoo????) who would be very user-friendly when it comes time to create and run a website??

you can transfer your domain name from your current hosting provider to yahoo.

here is a link you can start with

How long will GoDaddy hold on expired domians?

My friend's domain recently expired at GoDaddy.com and now it's up for deletion he didn't bought the domain for himself someone gave it to him and that guy is nowhere to be found, I want to buy my friend's old domain but how long will GoDaddy hold onto it?

As soon as it expires GODADDY MIGHT give you 10 days.Heres what I do.Go to yahoo domain names and type in the name of the domain name,if its available, then buy it from them or go to GODADDY and buy it. WHATEVER you do,DO NOT go to GODADDY and make multiple inquiries for the same domain name. The reason is after a few inquiries,GODADDY will buy it themselves and deem it a prefered listing so instead of paying $9.95 they will try to charga $200 or more because they feel that the name is popular and thus charge a premium for it.

if its expired its your for grabs

Will deleting my entire yahoo account make a domain name available again..?

I've recently experienced some frustrating issues with managing my yahoo domain and web hosting services. I'm not sure how I did it.. but I accidently deleted my web hosting plan. Then I ended up canceling my domain name because I thought it would take affect immediately (meaning it would be available for purchase again within a short period of time so I could get it on another yahoo account). After I canceled all this, I found that it would take until 2012 until my domain name expired, so even though I canceled my rights to it, unless I reactivate it.. I will not be able to use it at all.

Basically, I was wondering what would happen if I delete this entire yahoo! account- would that make the domain name available for purchase again?

Or, if I were to reactivate the domain name, is there any way I can transfer it to another yahoo account?

Sorry if this is confusing..

Answers are greeeeattly appreciated.

Hi. Visit this page: http://whois.domaintools.com/jaimemontoya.com

Type the domain name that you had (Whois form, they click on the button that appears there or Enter) and find the reports about the domain that you had. For my domain this is the information (you could get something different, but get conclusions from what you get, like who is the current owner of your comain, or when it will expire, etc.):

also you can take a look at some of my other designs on the above url

Not sure if you want a subdomain of DeviantArt; or a real domain... But these names were un-owned and available as of Sept. 24 2008:

meendazign.com

artzeen.com

ameenzart.com

www.badnewsbears.com

Oh, you might be the wrong razor to get that. Nevermind.

Something like RazorDesign.com sounds good. I don't like hyphens in domain names.

Domain name expiration dates?

I have browsed the question archives but I can't seem to find an answer to my question...

Is there a way to find out WHEN a registered domain name expires?

I know how to find out if someone owns it, and who the owner is...But I can't seem to find a site that tells you how long it is registered for.

I ask, because I have a specific domain that I want (it's taken) and I want to backorder it in hopes of obtaining it when it expires...But if it is registered for another 10 years, I don't want to waste my time or money doing so.

Thank you in advance!

In regards to buying an old domain, you need to make sure the domain you want doesn't have any negative bagage attached to it:

- Has it been used for spamming or porn or bad search engine optimization tactics?

- Has it been used to clutter natural search results to lure people to click on ads?

- Has the domain been blocked by ISPs or added to email black lists?

If you are confident that the domain has a good history, then it is worth investing in. SEO folks love to buy old domains with good history because this is one factor (of many) to help with ranking high in search results.

Good luck!

Do a Whois lookup on the domain - the expiration date is included with the owner/admin data.

Try going to www.dnsstuff.com and do the whois lookup.

Try these WHOIS websites

http://www.networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois

http://resellers.tucows.com/opensrs/whois/

Keep in mind that they might have already PAID, but it does not show the extension yet. In general, I do not believe that it is worth buying an old name. This delays your entry into the market place; where you could be building your own name recognition while waiting.

I thought one could get an alert set up for when a domain name becomes available. Where can I find that?

If it exists, I'd like to know where it is found.

More precisely, I'm looking after a domain name that is set to expire soon and want to make sure I will be the first to register it.

Network solutions offer a service called snapnames.com which allows you to camp on a domain and take part in an auction of multiple people are wainting for the same name to become free. There is a moderate charge plus a percentage of the bid.

My domain name is registrar lock?

My domain name expired and i did not renew it with (namebargain.com) now status is Lock and Extended RGP will cost me 160 usd to get it back. What can i do to get it back ? namebargain don't answer my emails and how long i must wait before renewing it normaly again. Thank you

Hello, you should wait about 45 days. Today your domain is like a zombie, no one controls it, excepting the one who created it (namebargain), wait that time and backorder it now and please change of domain company, no good service!!

Maybe you'll find valuable info at http://thedomainblog.blogspot.com/

Namebargain.com appears to be a "reseller" for an actual domain registration company (called a "registrar"). Namebargain's legal fine prints tell me they're reselling for Register.com, but the detail "extended RGP" tells me they once did so for Enom.

If you go to iwhois.com, type the domain name on the search bar, hit Lookup, and it returns a search result, take note of the line "Registrar". Contact Register.com if it says "Register.com", or Enom if it says "Enom.com".

Chances are the domain name's with Enom because it's on Extended RGP like you said. That means you'll have to deal with Enom about it.

Unfortunately Enom can let go of any domain name anytime they see fit. You can probably complain to ICANN (www.icann.org), but I doubt it'll do any good.

If the domain name's that important to you, I suggest you bite the bullet and chalk up the fees. Then make up for the fees based on how you intend to use the domain name.

Good luck on making the right decision.

I need to know whats your domain name to investigate further.

I had this one once. and all we did was wait it will be locked for up to 35 days depending. but make sure you keep checking on it every day cause once it becomes available it could be bought up.

Theres nothing you can do unless you pay money. Just wait.

I would like to make an offer for the domain myname.me.uk. What would be an acceptable initial offer?

The domain name is 11 characters long: first name surname with no spaces. The first is paul, the surname is not particularly common. The person doesn't seem to be using the website and the domain registration expires in October this year.

I own myname.co.uk. Please only answer if you have some idea as to what domain names will sell for. Any deliberately unhelpful answers will be reported as abuse.

hi

check out sedo.com

i usually sell my domains over there

you will get a good price / bargain

depending upon how many hits tht domain gets, how it is linked , indexed and what pr ratings it is having

u just join sedo and put ur domain out for auction .. many buyers wil contact you

thanks

islam inamdar

Domain names are not expensive. I pay £20 for 2 years for both of mine.

it depends on the number of hits the website gets as to the price..... if it is due to run out in october i would wait till then to get it though.

In that case you need to do some research on the domain to find out how many hits it gets etc either from the site itself or contact the guy the problem is though that what ever you pay him you will still be in the free for all in october.

Try www.godaddy.com, type in the domain you are interested in. If the domain is available, you can try to buy it, or it it's taken you can view the link "domain is already taken (click here for info)". Follow the directions to get to find out who owns the domain and when it expires. The expiration is usually at the bottom of the page.

Is it just my computer, or did NinSheetMusic's domain name expire today?

Yup-yup, the domain expired September 20th.

(You can still get to the chat from http://forums.drshnaps.com/chat.php though!)

No, sheet music is still saved in the database except we can't access that database because it's not being hosted anymore. At this point, the domain passed it's redemption phase and therefore can't return until 45 days after(meaning it can't be bought until that time runs up). I'd say December 14th. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080921091657AAXFeAG&kid=TIIqJEPYLWaiHAhBwxOE&s=comm&date=2008-11-06+04%3A21%3A23&.crumb=

I got it too. Apparently someone (Bas Djon Hoekstra (Don't ask me, ask JaMaHa)) is supposed to renew it, but since G-Han is gone, we (you guys) are pretty much screwed. That is unless JaMaHa can pull through. You know you could just join #nsm and ask this question yourself...

Domain Name: NINSHEETMUSIC.COM

Record expires on 8/18/2008

Record created on 8/18/2005

Database last updated on 8/7/2008

I can respond to you, Gamer, in two ways:

1. You don't have to attack her. T_T

2. Maybe she thought you would be there. :P

Anyway, hopefully it'll be back up soon, until then, there's always APM and GMW to fall back on.

It really looks like it....I don't understand...how could they let it expire? I wonder if that means all their sheet music is gone now....

Where Can I Find The Expired List?

Where Can I find the Expired List of .CC Domains please

If anyone knows, Please help me out.

How to park my domain?

I want to park my domain. It still have 11 months left in its registration. How can I park it in Sedo.com using my registrar's control panel? I have some difficulty in using it. (Register nameservers, modify nameservers, or delete nameservers) In addition it has no hosting right now (expired). Does anyone has a step-by-step way to redirect my domain?

You have to register first at sedo , check http://sedo.com/main.php3?language=us&partnerid=39735 .

How long does it take for domain name after expiring to become available for registration to any one to use?

A lot of registrars have grace periods so people can get back their domain name without the risk of someone else taking it. Apparently, the grace period can be anywhere from a couple of weeks to a full year, so you should check with the registrar to see what their policies are.

Pretty much instantly.

There are nameseller sites which have "waiting lists" of names people want, and as soon as one comes up, they auto-register. They charge for the service, but for something hot it might be worth it.

Public domain book copyright question?

I am interested in publishing a book who's original copyright was in 1890, and had a forward added to it in 1983 that is copyrighted. My question is this - can I publish the original work, since the copyright has expired, with a new forward that I write? Or does the addition of the forward in 1983 renew the copyright for the whole work?

The mere addition of a forward in 1983 does *not* renew the copyright for the whole work.

Does the copyright notice state that only the forward is copyrighted in the 1983 version? Something like this, for example: Forward copyright © 1983 by Publishing Company. If so, you're all set.

And if not? Even if the notice on the copyright page doesn't say that only the forward is copyrighted, it still *may* be the only part of the 1983 edition that is protected. The original 1890 text is in the public domain (as you know). But what if the 1983 edition includes more new material in addition to the forward? What if edits were made? This is where it's hard to answer without seeing the book.

Maybe this will help ...

Not all edits to a public domain work are copyrightable themselves. Making minor changes or adding little of substance to a preexisting work won't qualify the work as a new version for copyright purposes. Any new material must be original and copyrightable in itself -- things like forwards, notes, illustrations, and introductions will be protected. Merely adding or deleting punctuation, making spelling changes, or correcting typos doesn't cut it.

Once you've determined you've got the original 1890 text (whether it's reproduced in that 1983 edition or elsewhere), you may certainly publish it with a new forward. But note that only your forward will be protected by copyright.

Hope that helps, and good luck!

in general your question is right, that part of the book that was original in 1890 is public domain now. It was also PD for the reprinting you found. However the newer edition could also be edited or have changed from the original. That being the case, I would search for an original 1890 version to copy and not work from the reprint.

If it doesn't say on the page where copyright is usually found... and it should say what the copyright is, on the page including publisher, etc.-- (does it say there that the '83 copyright is "only for the forward"? somehow that seems unlikely to me) --you may want to do a bit of research on your computer to find out some more about this before you proceed.

Wikipedia has quite a long entry about copyright. It can get confusing (at least if you're [I'm] in a hurry to answer a question here), but if you take your time with it, and even make notes, perhaps you'll learn what you need to know.

http://www.wikipedia.org

My other suggestion is that you bring this book to the library and study up on it there, first asking the reference librarian what other books to look in. Show the librarian this one (unless it's too fragile, then copy out all info on relevant pages) and he or she may even already know the answer.

Someone here may, too. I find it a tough question since I can't see the book, etc.

It does seem to me that when E.B. White added his bit onto Strunk's "Elements of Style," which, wouldn't you know it, I can't find right now, the copyright was extended, and I think White tinkered with that book twice, so the copyright grew twice. Which prob'ly doesn't help on this question.

Wish I could be hanging over your shoulder to figure this out!

How do I get my money back from an online purchase?

On February 20, 2007, I made a purchase from yourbookhaven.com. Received a confirmation email, but have never received the product. Just tried going to the website and the domain has expired. I paid for the purchase using my VISA debit card? How do I go about getting my money back?

I tried to do a little investigation with no luck. Its not a good sign that they disappeared. The only thing I suggest is to contact your bank and see if they can help you. They usually have more resources. They might have dealt with this problem before. You might be able to dispute the transaction also.It depends on there policy. some banks only give you 30 days others 6 months.I wish the best of luck to you.

You probably don't. The only way would be to make a claim with your credit card company itself. Only buy from reputable dealers online.

Authorization code for a domain transfer?

I have to been trying to acquire an "authorization code" for transferring my domain to a new registrar. My current registrar provided with a password which my new registrar rejects saying invalid.

My current registrar customer support are pondering about this problem for 3 full days, deadline after deadline and no real progress and hopeless customer service.

If you have had experience of transferring domains, please tell me

1.) Normally how long would it take to find out the "Authorization code" for a domain?

2.) If my current registrar is purposefully delaying the process(i suppose they are, because my domains expires in about 2 weeks from now), what actions can I take to make sure i get the code in time.

3.) Whether there is any legal enforcement which could be taken against these people for purposefully delay or employing unskilled personnels.(My current registrar is an Indian Company).

It usually takes a week or so for everything to get sorted, then you can transfer. Not sure how long you've been waiting though.

Yes, you can try legal action... but for a few bucks, why spend a few hundred hiring an attorney?

Try going to www.namepros.com , biggest domain forum. If you don't get this resolved.

Good Luck :)
