Domain name expiration dates?

I have browsed the question archives but I can't seem to find an answer to my question...

Is there a way to find out WHEN a registered domain name expires?

I know how to find out if someone owns it, and who the owner is...But I can't seem to find a site that tells you how long it is registered for.

I ask, because I have a specific domain that I want (it's taken) and I want to backorder it in hopes of obtaining it when it expires...But if it is registered for another 10 years, I don't want to waste my time or money doing so.

Thank you in advance!

In regards to buying an old domain, you need to make sure the domain you want doesn't have any negative bagage attached to it:

- Has it been used for spamming or porn or bad search engine optimization tactics?

- Has it been used to clutter natural search results to lure people to click on ads?

- Has the domain been blocked by ISPs or added to email black lists?

If you are confident that the domain has a good history, then it is worth investing in. SEO folks love to buy old domains with good history because this is one factor (of many) to help with ranking high in search results.

Good luck!

Do a Whois lookup on the domain - the expiration date is included with the owner/admin data.

Try going to www.dnsstuff.com and do the whois lookup.

Try these WHOIS websites

http://www.networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois

http://resellers.tucows.com/opensrs/whois/

Keep in mind that they might have already PAID, but it does not show the extension yet. In general, I do not believe that it is worth buying an old name. This delays your entry into the market place; where you could be building your own name recognition while waiting.
